Ever seen a dirt late model? Since 2003 I've spent most of my weekends traveling around Tennessee and my surrounding states as a freelance photographer for several dirt late model racing series, magazines, and newspapers. It's really just an expensive hobby. Hardly any pay and hardly any picture sales, but it is a chance to get in free and get a little bit of exposure for the drivers and tracks. I'd be there anyways as a fan in the stands so I'd rather do this and have more fun!

Absolutely eat, sleep, & breath the stuff though. Nothing beats the atmosphere that looms around every race track. You'll meet some of the coolest people in the world by hanging out in the pits.

Sorry for clogging the forum with some examples...

Of course they also crash. One of my most popular photos was from 2004. We have a dirt track called Volunteer Speedway that is about 45 minutes from Bristol. Bill Elliott was running the Cup race at Bristol on Sunday, but Saturday night he showed up with his white #9 late model to have some fun on the dirt!

The fun went away fast! I have this hanging on my wall. It was my first magazine cover. Not only because I captured the car flipping but also because Bill Elliott was involved as well. Lucky timing for me...

I've also seen Ken Schrader run on dirt a few times. He's awesome. :D

Kenny Wallace runs on dirt too, but in an open wheel modified and not a dirt late model. I saw Kenny race once and he is real good in them. In fact he should probably just race those instead of always trying to run in NASCAR with mid-pack equipment. :(
