Had a trip to The Falkirk Wheel yesterday. For those who are impressed by these things, it is the world's first and only rotating boat lift. It links the Forth and Clyde Canal to the Union Canal, with a 35m difference in height between the two.

Very striking piece of architecture, and obviously very cleverly engineered. Had a trip on a boat, taking us up the wheel, along the aquaduct, through a tunnel (which runs under Antonine's Wall) and then back again. Very nice indeed.

If any of you are up in this area, it's well worth a visit.

Looks like a stunning piece of engineering Alan and mighty impressive. Do you know if there is any pupose to the "ears" on the top of the carriers?

I suspect they are purely to please the eye. :)
