Since I moved house about 28 months ago I have had a maximum download speed of 1.5 mb but this seemed to be around 1mb which was fine for most things. About 2 months ago I noticed it was woefully slow about 136kbps which is around 16 kb download or 1/8 th of a MB . After phoning AOL loads of times they finally said there was a problem at the exchange & sent someone out & it would be sorted in 24 hrs.
24 hrs later I was back up to 1.5 mb so all was ok , then the speed dropped back to 1/8th mb.
After being on the phone all morning they have said I am too far from the exchange & my max speed is 256kbps so what i am getting is acceptable ! even tho I said I had been getting 1mb+ for over 2 years.
I asked for my mac code said I was leaving but after going onto the BT site & typing in my phone number it says I can't even get broadband which is crazy as last time I checked that site 6 months or so ago it said 1mb available & when I put my Auntie's phone number in who lives 2 streets away & on the same exchange it says she can get 3mb. Rang BT they said that I couldn't switch to them as broadband wasn't available on my phone number & the exchange wasn't due to be upgraded this year.
So somewhere along the line I have been shafted by someone & I can't do anything about it . I'm stuck with download speeds barely double dial up it took me allnight last night to do a xbox live update & 45 mins to download a 25mb track for Netkar this afternoon I am so angry I want to kill someone ! preferably from an Indian call centre !! .

Not ordered the plate yet but my connection seems a lot better now. I used to turn my router off every night but someone told me leave it on so it gets used to syncing without disconnects. I left it on 4 days & it was really slow but after rebooting it synced at about 1.4mb & after leaving it on for 3 days my speedtest has shown a download of 153kbs compared to 17 before ! I will leave it on permanently now & hopefully it will stay at this speed.
