Is anyone else looking forward to the release of Colin McRae: DIRT, later this year? I used to play CM 2 all the time on my PS1, and have started to get in to CM 4 on my housemate's PS2. The forthcoming version will be the first game to feature Codemasters' much-hyped Neon engine.

Here's a few screenshots to whet the appetite:

Must admit I don't know too much about the new Colin McRae game. Loved CM2 and played it a lot with friends for months and months. Then they ruined the franchise with CM3 and even now they haven't yet come close to matching CM2 for options, etc.

It would be nice to play a rally game again, but I shall wait to see if this is another Codemasters arcade game pretending to be a simulation or something worthwhile instead.

Got a copied version of CMR3 on my PS2 but never really played it much. I prefer racing against other cars rather than time trial type racing which is basically what rally racing is.

I think part of the attraction with rally games is that they're a very different challenge and require a very different style of driving. With CMR3, unfortunately you were playing the worst version of the game that Codemasters have released.

Try and get hold of a copy of CMR2. As Alan suggested that's generally regarded as the daddy, and seems to be the edition most of the online leagues still use. CMR2005 might also be worth a look as a lot of the reviews say that approaches the level of CMR2, and maybe ever surpasses it. As for CM:D, that's scheduled for release on 30th July (on the PC), so with any luck it'll be out just after Christmas.
