Does anyone own one?

Given how stores are selling out within literally minutes of receiving a delivery, I'm tempted to pick one up should I come across anywhere with stock. Could make a tidy profit on eBay.

A few of my mates have bought them, and from what I've been told they seem like quite a fun little console. With this in mind, it might actually be sensible to forget about buying one, as I could end up liking it too much myself, so it'll never reach eBay. :?

Is it the kind of console you can enjoy a game of FIFA on by yourself, or is the whole thing just geared towards the Wii Sports-type games?

I've no interest really in multiplayer games as the living room in my flat isn't big enough for me to be hosting gaming sessions. From what my friends have told me, I get the impression that this is what it's most suited for. That could be more to do with the games that have been released so far, though, than the console. I see Pro Evo is due out in the new year.

The Wii is the first Nintendo console I haven't owned since the NES. I didn't buy into the gimmicky control system & gamecube graphics for a next gen console. Sure there are a few games that use the controller well but most are shoehorned onto it from PS2 & gammecube ports.
I got a 360 & absolutely love it ! COD4 has taken over from Halo3 in the drive & I spend most spare time playing it over live with mates really good fun ,.
Not really found a racing game that I like a lot tho so may return to rFactor at some point unless things change.
Hope you are all ok by the way !

I can't really comment on the control system as I've never played on a Wii, but I'm thinking there must be something good about it as Nintendo are giving the other two a good kicking in terms of sales. Since starting this thread, I've actually acquired three Wiis. Despite not being my original intention, I might hold on to one and take it with me when I go and stay with the family over Christmas.

I don't actually know anyone who's opted for a PS3 over a 360, which is surprising when I think how popular the PS2 was. Microsoft seem to be in a much better position at the moment than Sony, as the 360 has the better games and is cheaper with it.

Thats true i have more friends with xboxes and only 1 with a ps3. However as you ve mentioned there are no decent racing sims for them, yeah graphics are good esp frame rates but lack realism. Thats the reason i bought my first nintendo in the wii, for a bit of fun games and a chill out and leave racing for my pc. i know the graphics arent as good but i enjoy playing on it and have had no probs with the controllers.

Other than a period when I was addicted to Colin McRae Rally 1/2 on the PS1 and a few Sega Master System games, I've never really been into consoles that much. Part of the reason is probably the point you made - there just aren't that many decent console racing games out there. I'm looking forward to trying out a Wii over Christmas, though, just to see what all the hype is about.

Nintendo has always made fun games, the Wii is spanking the others because it's cheaper & doing something different with the controller, a bit like the DS is spanking the PS down to being cheaper & having brain training etc with touch screen control.
They have come up with a way of printing money with those machines which is good in a way as it was looming that they might go the way of Sega at one point after the N64 & Gamecube .
They seem to have got a whole new type of non gamer interested which has really paid off.
Knowing me I will end up with all 3 consoles in the end like I have the last few generations ! altho at the minute I am more than pleased with my decision to go the 360 way first this time.
As far as racing games go I prefer Moto GP07 on the 360 to forza or PGR4. There is a Toca Racecar driver game being made, Colin Mcrae Dirt & Sega Rally are supposed to be good offroaders & GTR has been coming for ages but not appeared yet.
If you are into first & 3rd person shooters 360 is definately the way to go tho with COD4, Halo3,Half Life OrangeBox ,Gears of war,R6Vegas the best on any system at the minute.

The last console I bought was the Dreamcast, I just don’t have time for playing games like I used to!

I still have my Dreamcast it was a great machine you could download dodgy games straight off the net & burn them to disc no need to modify the console or anything ! It was a travesty it died so soon it was on a par with PS2 graphically & games are still made for that now ! I have loads of emulators (snes, amiga, megadrive with stacks of games on the discs that all run on the Dreamcast)

On another note Sensi World of Soccer is out on Xbox live arcade next weds with full online live play can't wait !

After the messy launch was finally sorted, Codemasters came up with what some have described as the game of 2007, with SWOS. It's pleasing to read that the developers got things right this time, following a few dodgy post-Amiga releases.

I enjoyed playing the Wii over Christmas. A lot of the fun games remind me of the kind of thing released originally for the Eye Toy, on the PS2. The Wii Sports games don't really take any getting used to, as I've not spent years playing a similar type of game, with a different controller. What was a little weird, at first, was playing FIFA. Although controlling the movement of the players is done using a traditional method (direction stick), to perform tasks like shooting and tackling you have to move the Wii Remote in various directions.

There may not be the option to use a traditional style controller with FIFA, but you get used it. The problem may be going back - I've read claims on forums by people who've said they ended up throwing a PS3 game pad in the air, after having got used to the Wii controls, for FIFA.

My nephew got one for xmas & I enjoyed the tennis & golf on wii sports.
SWOS on XBL arcade plays very nicely the updated graphics make you think it's the original until you switch back to clasic mode & notice all the pixels & lack of widescren etc.
On another note I read some where yesterday that Godeneye will be remade for XBL arcade as activision own the bond rights & rare are now owned by microsoft. That was my most played game ever alongside swos i think.

If Goldeneye is released on XBL arcade, expect to see a lot of N64s on eBay.

There's a section on Wii Sports where you complete a number of activities in order to calculate your Wii fitness age. The tasks chance, and the idea is it's something you do once per day, improving every time. My fitness age is incredibly poor, though, so won't be revealed. :P

Mario & Sonic at the Olympics sounds pretty cool, like a more advanced version of those old Olympic games where you had to repeatedly press two buttons. Good fun, but tiring and probably significantly increased your chances of arthritis.

Neil made the point that some of Nintendo's recent creations have been a little gimmicky, and the Wii fitness age probably falls into this category, as your results depend on 'skill' as much as fitness. The activities change daily, and often you're simply better at some than others.

Thanks for posting that link Dean. The new control system looks good, although it's hard to form any real opinion without having tried it. At least people won't be able to complain about this version just being another minor update with a few new players.
