Yes have heard of that Obree film, will have to check it out sometime. I'm a bit behind the times - I saw Indiana Jones yesterday at Mum's - was OK :)

Saw "the Flying Scotsman" a month or so ago, thought it was fascinating, especially the technical stuff and the way he kept winning out against the governing body. A nice uplifting film, I thought.

Indiana Jones left me pretty cold. I think George Lucas is past it, and I don't care for his and Spielberg's penchant for going back to beloved movies and changing them to make them more "politically correct." Gah, what a gag-worthy phrase that is...

yes totally agree wasnt anywhere as good as the original triology. A film i saw advertised coming to the pictures is 'baader-meinhoff complex' based on the german terrorist group from the 70's baader-meinhoff. Its directed by the german guy who made 'das undertag' so if its as good as that then i will be pretty chuffed.

Didn't like Indiana Jones myself either. Had too little vodoo stuff I think. And it had too much strange things like the cavemen or whatever, which just left me sitting there wondering what the h?#& happened.

Crash
The one made a couple of years ago, not the dodgy 90s one. Very, very good. A film that plays on your expectations and prejudices.

Little Shop Of Horrors
Saw this musical a couple of months ago at a local theatre, so decided to add the film to our LoveFilm list. Sick and twisted and very funny.

Iron Man
Wasn't expecting much, but it was surprisingly enjoyable. Hugely far-fetched, but didn't take itself too seriously, and as a result had some great moments.

Four Christmases
An enjoyable enough Christmas comedy. A nice way to spend the last Saturday afternoon before Christmas.

Went to the cinema to see The Wrestler tonight. For anyone who likes sports movies, or anyone who just likes brilliantly acted stories with sobering characters, I can thoroughly recommend it. Mickey Rourke puts in an amazingly believable performance as an aging wrestler, struggling to accept that his best days are way behind him.

Dave, did you get to catch The Wrestler?

Not seen Che, Dean. Any good?

Watched Slumdog Millionaire last week. Very good, although it didn't live up to the awards/hype. But then, when expectations are raised to such a high level, you can't help but feel a little disappointed in the end. Definitely worth seeing, though.

Soundtrack is excellent - tempted to buy it. Don't think I've bought a soundtrack since The Beach. Er, funnily enough, also a Danny Boyle film. How strange... :?

Watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit for the first time ever last night. Very cleverly made film, especially one that is now over twenty years old. Enjoyed it very much. :D

Would I? Nah, she's a toon!

Jus found this thread. :)

Watched The Knowing with Nicholas Cage at the weekend - good film, I'd recommend it, and not what I thought it would be.

The Flying Scotsman is an excellent film, but doesnt go into his early life as much as the book does. Obree made a comback of sorts at Donnington Bike Festival in May.

Also saw the new Tranformers film - I'd give it a miss if you're not into special effects, and a predicatable "story" line. Good fun though. :)

I enjoyed the first Transformers film, but the sequel was pretty awful IMO. There was one good part, though. The part played by Megan Fox. :D

Looking forward to Tarantino's new WWII based film - Inglourious Basterds. Although, strangely, I never got around to watyching Kill Bill (I or II). Are they worth catching?

Not seen Public Enemies yet, but it is one I'm looking forward to.

Watch the Watchmen last night. I enjoy superhero films, batman, Superman etc, but I didnt know what to make of this one. A bit drawn out and slow. Id give it a miss unless you are a fam.

Also watched the new Taking of Pelham 123. Predicatable, but enjoyable and I liked Travolta - he's excellent as the mean b*****d in this one.

Anyone seen The Island? An enjoyable piece of nonsense starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson (who looks very good in it), and directed by the guy who went on to do Transformers... Actually, it wasn't complete nonsense - I thought the story was actually quite a strong concept, and would have made a great sci-fi film. However, that wasn't how it was handled, and it was all about the car chases and explosions.

Watched Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz on Saturday. Although I've seen them before, they still amuse... :)

Not been to the cinema for months. Plenty of films I'd have liked to have seen, but never got around to. Oh well, I guess that's what LoveFilm is for.

Looks like I'm getting dragged to the movies a bit more often - with my 11 year old!

The other month - Twilight-New Moon - omg what a load of crap :) I guess it would have made more sense had I seen the first one as she had.

Last week - Avatar 3D - now that's more like it. A bit long for the kid but I enjoyed it and the 3D was pretty good. To be fair though she stayed awake to the end but said it was a bit violent :) I think she wished we'd seen St Trinians!

My lovely wife bought me a Blueray player for Xmas. It also plays standard DVDs, and the quality is excellent. I wonder if anyone has Blueray, and if the discs are worth the extra they cost over and above a bog standard DVD?

I don't have a Blu-ray player, but I'd imagine if I did it would be better to get movies in that format. If they are eventually going to replace the DVD format, it will save you having to replace the DVDs at some point in the future.

Watched Inglourious Basterds on blu ray last night and although it was sharp I didnt notice a stunnind difference. I expect side by side Id be able to tell.
Very Tarantino film, great music, lots of gore and a bit bleak. Glad I saw it though.

I got the Inglourious Basterds DVD for Christmas, so looking forward to watching it soon.

Went to see Sherlock Holmes today - not great, but not bad. Certainly unlike any portrayal of the characters I've seen previously. Rachel McAdams is very nice.
