I saw Race '07 for sale for just £15 in GAME last week, so decided to buy it. Not in any real rush to see what it's like, but it's good to have it to keep my options open in the months to come. I did try to install it last night, however, but my DVD/CD drive doesn't even think the disc is in the drive. Another PC can read it fine, so it's not the game; definitely my PC at fault. I imagine this is the first time I've ever actually tried to install from a DVD ROM, and I've had the PC for four years now!

Hopefully I'll get it sorted, else I'll either have to take the game back, or buy a new drive...

It's a pity the game demands so much computer power

Try installing a new driver for the DVD.

Hmmm, sounds like it might be a reasonable idea to just take it back and get my £15 back. The recommended machine spec didn't seem that ridiculous, but of course they should always be taken with a pinch of salt.

If I can get it installed, I'll give it a go, but no point buying a new disc drive for a game I might not be able to run anyway.

DVD Writers are only about £20 so even if you got a new one it wouldn't be too expensive you cheapskate.

Well, a bit of jiggery-pokery and I was able to get the game installed last night. Not had a chance to try it yet, though, so no idea just how poor my frame rate will be.

Given I upgraded my memory and graphics card at the end of last year, I'm guessing if I ever did want to upgrade my PC it'd be a new motherboard/processsor.

Steve, given the amount of overtime you must be clocking up, I'm sure you can afford £15 to buy your own copy. :P

Sounds like you don't even have time to open the jiffy bag, so I might as well keep it. :P

To be honest, Neil, I've yet to drive even a single lap in it. Too many other races to prepare for to get into a new sim. But I still intend to give it a go sometime...

Nice work, Davey! Action packed races with plenty of contact. The V8 admins would have a fit if they had to review these races!

haha maybe yes, but touringcars and nascar is allot different, where i nascar a contact between cars can have hughe crashes, in Touringcar its just give ur competitor a bump to pass him.. and door to door racing.

Jim, I'm hoping to have a first proper go at this sim over the holiday weekend. Anything I should know before I start? In order to give me a good first impression, any cars/tracks I should avoid for now? Finally, are the default setups any good, or should I be trying to find some to download somewhere?

Brands and Donington sound good to me, Davey. Just send what you have to my hotmail addres. Thanks.

Are the setups for any particular car?

Assuming it goes well and I like the feel of the sim, I'd probably like to do some league racing once my current series finish next month. R2P would be the most likely place, but it'll depend on how Race07 series fit around FNippon.

Hi Alan

Good move installing Race07 - still my favourite sim.

I like the Touring cars the best, although the Radicals come a close second. I drive, mainly the Honda, but I believe the Seat is the 'easiest' to drive.

I like Brands Hatch most, a nice flowing track, though I've heard a lot of people bemoaning its nothing like the real thing! I dont think Donnington is a stock track, and the version available in a conversion from GTR2. Curitiba, Pau, Macau and Anderstorp are some of my favourite tracks, but in reality Monza is the only one I'm not too keen on - must be easily pleased :D

I dont do setups, and use the Simbin setups all the time. I'll alter front and read ARB's, knock a bit of the coast side diff, drop the wing a bit, but thats all, though looking at my results, I wouldnt take that as good advice. :D

Hopefully you'll get a chance to race proper with the sim, and maybe you'll get to like it - I know I do, but at the end of the day, you have to go with what you enjoy the most.

Ran a numbe of laps at Curitiba this afternoon. I'm impressed. Graphically stunning, but handles nicely too. Decided to use the Honda, as at least that way I have a point of comparison with you, Jim. Managed a best of 1:25.829.

Now you've depressed me Alan - my best is 1:24:8, and it took me ages to get it. You install Race07 and get to within 1 sec after a few laps. Hrmmp! :D

Nice one, I'm sure you'll go faster the more you race.

It certainly looks impressive to me, although maybe rFactor would look just as good if I could get it to use the same resolution.

I'd imagine you can get it quite cheaply (£6 from Amazon), so it'd be worth getting if you have time to try another sim. Alternatively, wait until Race On later in the year, as it includes Race07 and STCC.

Oh, and sorry, Jim. ;) Thanks for the Curitiba recommendation, though - real fun track.
